Have a wonderful Christmas time in Cardiff!

Ferris WheelYou've probably been bombarded by Christmas adverts, music, displays and decorations over the last few weeks at least, but now that we’re in mid-December, we're ready to put on the Christmas songs, don our bright reindeer jumpers, and make a start on the first of many tins of Quality Street and tubes of Pringles!

If you still need some encouragement to get into the festive spirit, or if you’re ready to dive in headfirst, there are several ways you can surround yourself in the holiday spirit in Cardiff this year.

Cardiff Winter Wonderland

Cardiff Winter Wonderland has been a Christmas icon in Cardiff for several years now; offering a variety of activities suitable for the entire family. It’s also a great place to spend time with your friends or woo a crush.

Located on the City Hall Lawn, next to Gorsedd Gardens and opposite Cardiff City Hall and the National Museum, in Winter Wonderland you can skate, visit the Alpine Village for a couple of drinks, or gaze at the Ice Kingdom which houses a bunch of fantastic ice sculptures.

The open air ice rink is a firm favourite, but if you’re not a keen skater, you can enjoy the fairground rides which are available, including a Ferris wheel which offers a fantastic view of the city. You can also just enjoy a warm cup of mulled wine and a mince pie whilst you sit down and relax.

Cardiff Winter Wonderland is open now until the 3rd of January.

Cardiff Christmas Market

There are plenty of places to shop in Cardiff, which makes Christmas shopping a breeze, but if you want to get something a bit more personal and unique this Christmas, you definitely need to browse Cardiff Christmas Market which is open until the 23rd of December.

The Christmas Market itself is dotted around St John Street, Working Street, The Hayes, Hills Street and Trinity Street, so unless you spend all your time shopping on Queen Street, you’re likely to come across a fantastic selection of booths.

Whether its animal sculptures, jewellery, black and white prints of Welsh towns from the late 1800s or hand died silk scarves, there are plenty of things to feast your eyes on. What’s more, there’s also food stands, in case you want to try something different!

See a magical Christmas show

New TheatreThe Christmas period is the perfect time to see a show, and with roughly a hundred different theatres in Cardiff (we may be exaggerating this number slightly) there’s bound to be something showing that you’ll want to see.

The world’s favourite ogre is setting up shop in the Wales Millennium Centre; Shrek the Musical is on now until the 10th of January, and is sure to put a smile on your face.

If you want more traditional theatre fare this winter, you have to pop to see the pantomime Aladdin at the New Theatre. The show features Linda Lusardi, Gareth Thomas, Sam Kane and H from Steps! Aladdin is on now at the New Theatre, and will run until the 17th of January.

While it may not be a Christmas story, there is enough snow and ice in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe that we’re willing to call it a must-see this winter. The adaptation of CS Lewis’ novel will be in the Sherman Cymru until the 31st of December.

So chow down on a mince pie, enjoy a generous helping of mulled wine and have a great holiday season. Remember, if you’re looking for a student property in Cathays, Roath or Heath, we’ll be available throughout December and in to the New Year, and you can view the properties we have available online!
