Cardiff plays host to the UK's first Color Festival!
This weekend, Cardiff will be the setting for a major event, which is not just a first for the Welsh Capital, but a UK first too! The highly anticipated Color Festival will take place on Saturday 14th June at Splott Market, a festival that's toured all over Germany and thrown a huge party in Kingston, Jamaica, over the last two summers.
So what exactly is The Color Festival?
The Color Festival's basic concept is reminiscent of the ancient Hindu religious Holi Festival - also referred to as the festival of love or the festival of colours - which takes place every spring. During Holi, people come together to dance, eat and throw coloured powders over each other, creating a vibrant and exotic scene full of joy, colour and happiness. The company who have brought the fantastic Color Festival to Cardiff, LittleBigFoot Promotions, have taken the concept of Holi Festival and made it accessible to all regardless of religious beliefs, creating an event which promotes spreading as much love, happiness and paint as possible!
An incredible line-up of music at The Color Festival
Aside from the fantastic atmosphere expected from this one-of-a-kind event, the Color Festival has released an incredible line-up of live music which will be played from the minute the festival begins at 2pm until it finishes at 10pm. Headlining the event is BBC Radio 1’s very own electronic music connoisseur Annie Mac, who is sure to provide one of her famously energetic sets. The rest of the acts, which have caused just as much interest amongst electro music lovers, include several DJs who are currently storming the UK’s electronic dance music scene; Bristol-based Redlight, whose underground sound has found success in the UK charts, will be joined by Secondcity, who charted at number 1 this month with house track ‘I Wanna Feel’. Finally, completing the impressive line-up, The Golden Boy will provide festival-goers with a taste of his unique UK bass-inspired sound, alongside a selection of up and coming local talents who are regular favourites on the Cardiff music scene, including HighForThis, Owain Gwyn, Comfort, Van Pelt and Gavin Woo.
Where better than Splott Market for the Color Festival?
After conducting in-depth research as to the best location to hold this immense event, LittleBigFoot Promotions decided Splott Market was the perfect venue. The Market, which is an iconic Cardiff landmark, will be transformed for the day to create the perfect backdrop to the vivid colours, whilst providing full cover should the Welsh weather make an appearance.
We think Splott Market makes a fantastic venue choice for the festival as it brings people away from the usual nightlife haunts of Mill Lane, Greyfriars Road and the Student’s Union to a new and exciting location. The organisers of the Color Festival have also released information on several local businesses that will be providing food during the day, including Tapas Street Kitchen, Sugar Rush Candy and Fablas Ice Cream, and, in true festival style, a huge bar will be in place selling beers, ciders, spirits and mixers.
With only two days to go it is not surprising that tickets are pretty much gold dust, however, there are still ways to get your hands on festival tickets and join the other 4,999 people who will be getting ready for a day of excitement this Saturday. To search for tickets, visit the Festival’s online outlet or get in touch with a ticket rep through their Facebook page; tickets are currently priced at £29.99 for entry or £39.99 for entry and 5 colour bags. There will be no tickets available on the door, however, you can purchase more colour bags on the day.
We love events such as The Cardiff Festival, The Student Lock-In, Cardiff Bay’s ‘urban beach’ and of course The Color Festival, which provide the capital with new and exciting experiences, making Cardiff the vibrant city that it is.
