Cafe Pure - Cardiff's first health and fitness cafe!

The Antioxidant SaladThe concept for Cafe Pure was created by two personal trainers who noticed that there was nowhere in Cardiff serving food that was both super healthy and packed with taste. Opening its doors on 20th January this year, Café Pure launched at just the right time to catch those who were flagging on their New Year health kick. The Café’s motto of ‘love your health’ is reflected through the friendly staff who enjoy creating their nourishing recipes, and their complimentary customers who clearly love the ethos of the eatery.

Location

Café Pure is situated in The Flourish on Lloyd George Avenue, opposite the Millennium Centre in fancy Cardiff Bay. Although the café is not in a central location, it is only a short walk from the city centre, allowing you to get a kick start on your fitness before you even arrive at Café Pure!

Food

The innovative menu means that even those following a paleo, vegetarian or low carb diet have a wide choice of deliciously satisfying meals to pick from. The whole menu provides specific nutritional information so you know exactly what you are ordering.

When a member of the Capital Properties team visited the Café for lunch a few weeks ago, after much debating, they picked the Antioxidant salad off the menu. The salad contained a choice of chicken, tuna or tofu, accompanied by green leaves, kale, halloumi, walnuts, quinoa, avocado, mixed beans, and an optional dressing. Even though the salad tasted wonderful, you’d be hard pushed to finish the entire portion! All meals are generously sized, and designed to leave you feeling fully satisfied, with enough energy to keep you going through the day - even if your plans include a work out!

If you’re an early riser, why not pop in and try Café Pure’s nutritious breakfast menu? Choices include protein pancakes, wholemeal breakfast muffins, and a quad egg white omelette, which are sure to get your day off to an ‘energy bursting’ start.

Another thing we love about Café Pure is the selection of nutritious and tasty smoothies they offer, made from protein powders, fruits, vegetables and other healthy ingredients. Café Pure even caters for the fussy eaters among us, as all dishes are freshly made to order and you can even create your own salad from Café Pure’s salad bar, full of yummy options.

Prices and opening hours

All dishes are reasonably priced, with the average lunch dish costing around £5 - £9. Considering the menu consists of only fresh, wholesome recipes, we think that the café offers fantastic value for money.

Café Pure is open from 7:30am – 3pm Monday to Friday, 9am-1pm Saturdays, and is currently closed on Sundays. If you want to eat on-the-go then the café offers a takeaway service.

Atmosphere

The building that houses Café Pure is bright, airy and relaxed, replenishing your mood as well as your body. The interior of Café Pure has clearly received a lot of thought and attention, with the health inspired word art that decorates the café’s walls giving some food for thought – quite literally. Even down to the small wooden dumbbells that act as table numbers, the whole café is dedicated to its fitness theme.

The welcoming on-site nutritionists and personal trainers who work at Café Pure are on hand to answer any questions you may have, and can provide tips regarding healthy eating and exercise. The team have even gone as far as starting Saturday morning boot camps designed to help you lose weight, and tone. Boot camps are held outside the café and are open to everyone for just £3!

Verdict

We love the vision behind Café Pure and would recommend it to anyone looking for a healthy option when out in the Bay. Eating out can often be difficult for people with specific diets that aim to avoid carbs, sugars, salts, and saturated fats, and this healthy café resolves the problem. Café Pure has found a niche that Cardiff was crying out for and we think they make a brilliant addition to Cardiff’s eating out and takeaway options.
