Top Cardiff Halloween events this year

Halloween Lantern

It's that time of year again, the long summer days have given way to the shorter, colder and wetter days of autumn and students have returned to Cardiff. Welcome back! It won't be long before TV, shops and radio stations are bursting with Christmas advertising and music, but before all that there's Halloween, an event loved by children and students alike.

If you’d rather pass on trick or treating this year, you may change your mind when you see what Cardiff has to offer. Indeed, there is a wide range of events planned to suit everyone’s taste, and here are some of our favourites.

Cardiff Castle Ghost Tours

No Halloween would be complete without a few ghost stories and ghost tours. Cardiff Castle will be offering ghost tours on Sunday the 27th October, Sunday 10th November and Sunday 24th November. The tour is designed to explore by night the beautiful castle, where ghosts are rumoured to reside. The torchlight tour will take you around the castle and maybe if you’re lucky you’ll have your own terrifying experience! Places are severely limited so book quickly. For more information visit the Cardiff History website.

Halloween at Mermaid Quay

Not to be outdone by the city centre, Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay will be getting involved in the Halloween buzz by offering a range of events from the 23rd- 31st October. These events will include Halloween treasure trails, pumpkin carving, fancy dress competitions and a Halloween Fright Fest. All these events are designed for people of all ages. For more information please visit the Mermaid Quay website.

SCARdiff 2013

Set up by horror author Wayne Simmons and Shock Horror Magazine, this one day Horror Expo will take place on October 27th 2013 at the Mercure Holland Hotel. The event is designed to bring fans closer together with writers, publishers, actors, directors, comic book artists and special effects artists. Come along and celebrate all things horror by booking a ticket through the SCARdiff website. Fancy dress/cosplay is allowed and ID will be required upon attendance.

Nights out across Cardiff

Many students enjoy a good night out and thankfully Cardiff’s bars and nightclubs are hosting a range of Halloween themed events. Soda on Mill Lane is hosting a Nightmare on Mill Lane night on Thursday 31st October with Halloween party games and VIP giveaways, while Revolution are hosting a Night of the Living Dead event on the same night. Many other nightclubs and bars across Cardiff host Halloween nights, but at the moment haven’t published their schedule, so keep checking for more information.

Although Cardiff has a wide range of Halloween events to get stuck into, you may prefer to spend the evening at home, perhaps have your own Halloween house party. If that’s the case make sure you decorate the property accordingly. Pumpkins, spider webs and fancy dress are a must! If you rented a property through Capital Properties we’d love to get involved in your Halloween celebrations. Send us your pictures on Twitter, Facebook and Google+.
